Tasks and Responsibilities:

Leads and guides the strategic planning & business development process

  • Manages the Business Development function within Western & Southern Europe, including the strategic planning process
  • Provides insightful and trusted counsel to the Western & Southern European senior management team on strategic planning and merger/acquisition issues
  • Participates in an ongoing strategic planning process that reviews, among other things: directions for HC Western & Southern European business to enter; grow or exit; geographic territories to be pursued; definition/redefinition of industry segments that could be advantageous

Steers (larger) capital expenditure and merger/acquisition activities

  • Aids in evolving the systematic process/methodology for identifying, assessing, selecting and approaching acquisition prospects for the area Western & Southern Europe
  • Helps formulate and presents acquisition, merger and divestiture proposals that include a thorough evaluation of market opportunity, risks and their mitigation and financial return
  • Helps direct due diligence teams in reviewing all aspects of proposed deals

Manages & supports other strategic growth initiatives

  • Evaluates complex business situations and problems of possible acquisitions and provide financial perspective to the decision-making process
  • Works proactively with appropriate individuals within the company to positively impact the success of the organization and the eventual shareholder value creation by the company
  • Manages network optimisation projects within the Area as necessary

Requirements:

Education

  • Minimum BA/BS degree (or equivalent)
  • MBA is preferred (or equivalent)

Professional Competence

  • 6 - 10 years’ experience record in the field of Strategy, M&A, project management; exposure to and operational knowledge of the building materials industry would be a plus
  • A background in business development and/or mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, ideally with specific deal experience
  • A proven record of working as a business partner with line management. This includes success as an advisor, counsellor and confidant to operating executives where the individual has provided support and has challenged the thinking of senior executives
  • Experience working in organizations where change, consolidation, re-engineering has occurred
  • An understanding of the impact of strategic planning upon the success of an organization and how it can affect the profitability of the Company
  • Ability to devise and implement highly sophisticated strategic deals
